Prevention

The entire team at The Dental Office of Dr. J. Larry Brewer is committed to helping you achieve excellent oral health. It’s never too late to start working toward a healthier smile, and taking positive steps now will help you avoid more serious oral health concerns in the future.

Protect Your Teeth to Protect Your Health

As part of the services we provide, we'll help you understand the importance of keeping your smile healthy. We’re learning more every day about the connection between the health of the mouth and our overall health.

Chronic problems like decay and gum infection can contribute to serious health concerns like heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory disease. In fact, a recent study by the American Academy of Periodontology found that patients with advanced stages of gum disease are twice as likely to contract heart disease as those who don’t have gum disease.

Preventive Dentistry for Oral Health

We all understand how important it is to take good care of your teeth if you want to enjoy a lifetime of problem-free oral health. Everyone has a busy schedule, so it’s not too surprising that scheduling routine preventive treatments can end up at the bottom of your lengthy to-do list.

But the time you take now to protect your oral health is a small investment considering the long-term benefits of enjoying a healthy smile.

Routine Professional Dental Cleanings

Food and beverages you consume during the day stick to the surfaces of your teeth, creating a substance we call plaque. Plaque coats tooth enamel, and if not removed, can lead to gum disease. Brushing and flossing is helpful, but even the most conscientious at-home oral hygiene doesn’t eliminate plaque completely.

You may not know that you have plaque buildup until you have a dental problem. During your twice-yearly professional cleanings, our hygienist will check the health of your gums and remove any plaque. If we do find signs of gum disease, we’ll develop a treatment plan to get your oral health back on track.

Regular Dental Checkups

Comprehensive dental exams are just as important as dental cleanings. During your exams, Dr. Brewer will be able to identify any underlying issues and address them before they create more serious problems in the future.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is important for keeping your family's teeth healthy and strong. It is available through topical applications in the dental office as well as toothpaste and mouth rinses. Non-bottled drinking water is another convenient source of fluoride.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a thin coating of plastic material applied to the uneven surfaces of back teeth, which are especially prone to decay. Sealants are perfect for kids because their teeth are usually still healthy and protecting them with sealants will help keep them that way.

Daily Oral Hygiene

If you’re not sure which products will be most effective for maintaining your daily oral health, our dental hygienist will be happy to guide you in selecting the proper oral hygiene products. Diligent at-home oral hygiene is one of the most effective and least expensive ways to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
